Press Release: Carver Brewing and Pagosa Brewing Presents:

Honoring Benjamin Franklin’s 300th Birthday, Carver Brewing Company and Pagosa Brewing Company will be releasing a jointly-brewed “Poor Richard’s Ale.”  The tapping release party will be held in Carvers’ Pub on Franklin’s birthday: Tuesday, January 17th beginning at 7:30 pm.

The nationally-acclaimed beer recipe for Poor Richard’s Ale was created by Pagosa Brewing’s president Tony Simmons.  “Both corn and molasses were common in ale during colonial times,” said Simmons, “and each would have helped to reduce the colonists’ dependence on imported British ingredients – a fact that would surely have pleased Franklin.”  A national panel of award winning brewers chose Simmons’ recipe to be the Brewers Association’s official recipe for this nation-wide event.  Thus far, over 100 breweries across 35 states are participating by brewing Poor Richard’s Ale for Franklin’s birthday bash (see www.beertown.org). Simmons collaborated with Carver Brewing’s Head Brewer Erik Maxson in brewing this special beer at Carvers.  “Franklin is widely quoted as saying: ‘Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy,’” said Maxson.  “We’re offering this quaff that Franklin himself might have enjoyed as our way of celebrating the life of a man many call ‘The First American.’”
